Kenya mt is fascinating in the variation of the flora and fauna at the different altitudes. The lower slopes are covered with a dry upland forest; the true montane forest begins at around 2,000m and is mainly cedar and Podo.
At 2500m a dense belt of bamboo forest begins which again joins into the upper forest of smaller trees, interspersed with glades. In this altitude the trees are covered with high altitude moss.
Animals of Kenya mt-Mount Kenya park animals
These different forest sections host a lot of varied animals. These include: waterbuck, black rhino, black fronted duikers, leopard, giant forest hog, genet cat Black and White Colobus and Sykes Monkeys, bushbuck, buffalo, elephant and lower down Olive Baboon, bush pig and hyena. More elusive is the bongo, a rare type of forest antelope.
The Sunni Buck, Kenya mt Mole Shrew, Skinks (lizard), and a variety of owls are among the rare animals found in the forest. Albino zebras have also been documented and sighted in the forest.
Vegetation on Kenya mt peaks
The Kenya mt moorland or peaks are at 3500m and has little game including zebras and eland common in the northern moorland. At 3000-3500m, the area is generally open and dotted with shrubs: African sage, protea and helicrysum.

There is a single lodge in the Kenya mt park with 66 beds, seven climbers huts with a total of 82 beds and three self-help bandas with a of 136 beds. Just outside the Mount Kenya National Park, there are three lodges with a total of 456 beds and another self help banda.
